My theory of Airgunning.

Theory of Airgunning.

Today im going to talk about my theory of airgunning. I think airgunning is a challenging skill, that everyone who has ever hunted should try at least oncce. I think if everyone tried it, we wouldnt get crap about hunting with "bb guns".

Airgunning requires skill.

If you want to hunt squirrels, most people do so with a 22 rifle. With a 22, you just aim at the squirrel, bang, squirrel in the bag. With an air gun you have to stalk to close distance or shoot with a good deal of precision. This requires much practice, and skill. If you hunt with an air pistol, you need even more skill.

Airgunning requires paitence.

With a 22 rifle if there are a few twigs in the path of your shot, you shoot anyways. If the squirrel is not turned all the way, you shoot anyways. With an air rifle, you have to wait for a clear broadside shot before you pull tha trigger.

Airgunnning is quiet and less dangerous.
In some situations you may have hundreds of squirrels, but cant shot a one because of alerting neighbors of your doings. You may have neighbors (like me) close to your house, but have a lot of hunting ground between you. If i were to shoot at a squirrel with my 22, and miss i would end up killing someone, because my neighbors are close, and the way my property curves around. With an airgun, my pellets hardly ever exit the squirrel. If i miss, as far away as my neigbors are, the pellet would just maybe sting a little. When im outside shooting my 22 or 22-250 everyone knows about it. If im outside shooting any of my pellet guns, no one knows unless they see me.

Airgun accuracy is cheap.
I have a remington Nylon 66 that a friend gave to me to coon hunt with. Its a pretty accurate gun. I topped it with a BSA 4x32 scope, and it will hit a squirrel (1") from 50 or so yards easily if i do my part. Thats when im shooting good cci hollow points. So lets see Gun free, Scope 40 bucks, cci mini mags 10 bucks per 50. So say 200 rounds to sight in and practice, and have on hand to hunt with thats 40 bucks for ammo. so thats 80 bucks for a 2 moa (minute of angle or 1"@ 100yds, 2"@ 200yds and so on) gun. My daisy 880 was 50 bucks. A tin of 500 crosman premier hollow points a 8 bucks. I bought four of them to have handy. My 880 will shoot near 1" at 50 yards. So lets see a 2 moa pellet gun is 74 bucks, and i havent even scratched the surface.

Airgunning is just plain fun.
Shooting an airgun is a lot like shooting 22 rimfires. Its easy cheap, and fun. But with an airgun, there is less noise, less recoil, less danger, and it is definately cheaper. And if you think about it how cool is it when you can say, I killed 2 squirrels yesterday with Air Power. Thats freakin awesome. Useing just normal breathing air, you killed 2 squirrels. Not useing gunpowder, just plain ol air.

Thats all i got for now.
Happy Airgunning!
